Game 7

We had been trying for 2 weeks to reschedule today's game for a later time so that we might be have kotch, bev, cow, and jason back from europe to play for us but no dice. 6pm game time, earliest we've ever played and it didnt really make a difference to us how many players we were missing. we had a total of 9 players on our bench today, 2 full forward lines and 3 defencemen. 1 less player than we had last week and the result was the same. another game, another victory for the Minivans. we're 7-0-0 now and if we can beat a team with only 9 players then i cant wait till we have a full team again.
Our opponent this week was the Pylons, we've played them quite a few times over the past 3 years and the games have always been exciting. We had Baskie in net today because Muj cant play earlier games and Iain also came out to play again for us because we needed him. overall a solid game by the whole team. The Hackett, Stoutey, and Kev Jonhston line connected for 3 goals on their very first shift, in the span of 56 seconds and that pretty much set the pace for the rest of the game.
even with us down 6/7 players we were still able to control the tempo of the game and effectively shut down a team with atleast 3 more players than us. the ability of our forwards to cycle the ball properly in their zone tired the Pylons down pretty well and gave us the upper hand because by the third period they were barely running anymore and we still had plenty of gas left in the tank.
ok so, as far as boxscore goes, kevin had 2 goals, so did stoute, and then in the third hackett sniped a beauty wrister past the keeper to make it 5-1 and we knew by that time we had the W.
Whenever Baskie plays net for us we know that we wont need many goals to get a win because he can single handedly win a game for us.
our team has now allowed 10 goals in the first 7 games of the season. not too shabby.
we have also scored the most goals out of any team and we're still undefeated. thats the only stat that matters. 7-0-0.

shoutouts.
- shoutout to Baskie, thanks for comin through and playing net when we needed you. solid game, as expected
- shoutout to Iain. another solid game by you as well as a call-up. maybe you should play on sunday more often. good hustle
- shoutout to vernoy, kells and iain because they were the only defence we had all game and managed to stop any real threat the Pylons would muster
- shoutout to the whole team. good win Minivans.

games 5 and 6

i've been slacking, i know.
game 5 was decent, nothing amazing by any means though. we played the titans and what should have been a resounding victory for us ended up being barely a victory for us. we won 3-2 on a close game that could have very well gone the other way had they hit the net instead of hitting posts but thats all done and finished now and we got the win. thats all that matters.

game 6 seemed as though it was going to be a little tougher because we were up against the Whalers, and we were missing 5 players from our team; kotchie, beavan, cowin, megit (all in europe) and jeremy (sick??) and then also little brawley. so we were actually missing 6 guys but no biggie. Iain came through in the clutch and played for us and since we were down so many guys i had to play defence with him. my first shift was atrocious and it resulted in their first, and only, goal of the game. it took a little while but after that i got a feel for defence and Iain and I played a solid game. Vernoy and Kells also played a solid game as the other 2 defencemen. we had a total of 10 guys and a goalie so it was exactly 2 full lines. oh yea, did i mention that we had BASKIE playing forward for us?? yea, desperate times call for desperate measures and he had one of the best forward games i've ever seen him play. he was setting up goals left right and center. pretty sure he logged either 3 or 4 assists on the 6 goals so thats always a bonus. he wanted a goal badly but im sure he's ok with a handful of helpers.

from the moment of the first goal the whole team turned it up a notch and brought the heat to the Whalers. we scored 6 unanswered goals and the final score was 6-1 for us, yet another victory and that was good enough to run our current streak to 6 wins to start the season now. big things.

special shoutout to muj for shutting the door after the first goal and allowing us to get a win.
special shoutout to Iain for playing for us. i was glad to have a defence partner as solid as him to back me up. i didnt worry once throughout the game because i knew he had my back.
special shoutout to baskie for playing forward for us, while he was wasted, and getting atleast 3 assists, maybe more. good game bud, you were pro style for sure.
special shoutout to stoute, johnston, and hackett too, solid line.
actually, special shoutout to the whole minivans team on this one. we played a solid game as a whole and considering we were missing 6 players we played stellar.

good game team.

Minivans 6-0-0

game 5 preview

this week we're playing the Titans on sunday at 8pm. this is a team we've played numerous times in the past 2 years and i was able to pull up the scores from last year and i'm seeing a trend here...
in 3 games we beat them 3 times and outscored them 18-2 last year.
lets not get ahead of ourselves though. who knows, maybe they have a whole new team. all i know for sure is that they're 0-4-0 so far and i'd like to help them get to 5 losses. i know the rest of the Minivans want to help them out also. and we'd also like to run our own streak to 5 straight wins to start the season.

another big game ahead of us this upcoming sunday

game 4 - summer season

another sunday night game... you know what that means!!
another solid game played by The Minivans and yet another victory to run our record to 4-0-0 to start the season. this game was a close one though and we were lucky to get the win and not have to settle for a tie.
We were playing the Redmen, who were called the Wedding Crashers 2 years ago when they slaughtered us. the team was pretty much the same with a few changes. their goalie was a new one.

the game started off pretty even, both teams were tied for scoring chances in the first 8 minutes. they got the first goal with 4:33 left in the first off a weak goal and we responded a minute and a half later on a nice goal by younger brawley.
by the start of the second period you could tell the extra players on our bench were helping us out because the Redmen were getting pretty tired and only one period had passed. by the midway point of the second period we were out-shooting them, controlling the pace of the game and pretty much dictating what was happening.
no goals in the second period, but we got plenty of scoring chances. stouty missed a tap in on an empty net and made up for it in the third period when he scored a nice goal to put us up 2-1.

we were in complete control all of the third until the refs started to call some iffy penalties in the last 5 minutes. we got called on 3 penalties in the final 4:40 of the game and all we could do was try to block the point shots they kept taking from the point. we were doing pretty well until the last penalty called on us. the Redmen scored with a minute left in the game to tie it up and we were still on the penalty kill the last minute and 1 minute into overtime.

our penalty kill was pretty good in overtime considering it was 4 on 3 and we managed to kill the penalty off and bring some more heat to the Redmen. Ross told Hackett he wanted to go on for the overtime and he seemed pretty confident in himself so hackett sat with johnston while jeremy and ross went out there and proceeded to score the game-winner. it was pretty exciting and looks like ross was right.

shoutouts
- special shoutout to Baskie, he was playing in net for us because Muj had to work and he played flawlessly. good game bud
- shoutout to Jeremy Carr, nice goal to get us the win in OT
- shoutout to Ross, he had a few nice blocked shots and was playing really well this week
- shoutout to The Minivans, good game team, solid win

lets keep this streak going.

game 4 preview

this week we play the Redmen, the weak thing about it is that we have to go all the way to commander arena in scarborough. thats all the way out at McCowan road, kind of a pain but oh well. i dont know if we've played this team yet but we arent worried. the minivans are never worried.
The Redmen are 1-2 this year and they have lost 2 straight. their GF is 13 and GA is 12 so they dont have a very good +/- ratio with respect to goals. lets hope we can make that ratio a little worse come sunday.

Minivans going for that 4th straight win. big things...
